12 years ago I was working at Waffle house as a waitress when this grungy dirty guy walked in with his friend sat down at the table next to the jukebox and caught my eye so I sent his waitress to ask a ton of questions.
If you have ever been to a waffle house you know the type of women that work there. Some aren't the most savory characters so poor Jeremy was trying to figure out how to let his waitress down easily. Bless his heart he thought she was interested in him. To his surprise I was the one behind all the questions. This 18 year old blonde hair blue eyed waitress fixing to graduate high school.
I will never forget the first time he called the house to speak with me. My dad answered the phone and very "dad like" said "SHES GROUNDED! She wont be talking for a LONG time." Poor Jeremy being 26 years old and in the military thought he was in over his head. He actually told me that he contemplated not calling me again (thank God he did)We kept his age a secret from my parents. I was TERRIFIED at what they would say if they knew he was 8 years older than I was. When he showed up to pick me up for our first date my mother was the date Nazi! She had a LIST of questions. To start she wanted the year, make and model of his vehicle. His drivers license number, name of his commander and contact information, where we were going, when he was to have me home....oh! and of course the infamous "don't try anything smooth buddy. I know how to use a gun." :I I wanted to CRY! I was mortified! And just knew this guy was never going to take me out again after that hahaha.
One date turned into four. Months passed, deployments passed, a short tour to Italy and then he popped the question.
Not once, not twice BUT THREE TIMES haha. Call me old fashioned but I wanted it done in person and this sweet man of mine did that for me. He had my best friend at the time, my family and our friend Joey come to the restaurant I was working at and before I knew it, I was being drug out of the bathroom for "an emergency". As I turned the corner I saw my brother, my dad, my mom, Joey and Lee standing behind Jeremy. I remember thinking something bad had happened but then Jeremy reached out his hand and started to get down on one knee. In a PANIC that people were going to stare at us I tried to run on to the patio but my clever boss knew me all to well and LOCKED the door. So there we were! In front of EVERYONE he pulled out a red rose from behind his back with a beautiful ring in it. He told me that he has traveled the world and been on many adventures but never imagined to find his forever in Nc. He couldn't wait to take the next big adventure with me if I would have him.....of course I said YES :)
11 years ago today we were married in N.Myrtle beach SC by my grandfather. In front of our closest friends and family we vowed to love each other through the good, the bad, the ugly and everything in between. The last 11 years have been beautifully chaotic. We've survived infertility, 10 deployments, three homes and 5 duty stations. We have 6 beautiful godchildren, 5 furbabies, 4 angel babies in heaven, loved 5 children that weren't our own; said goodbye to them and experienced tremendous grief. We've seen life, loss and love. Our marriage has been the furthest from what I thought it would be but I wouldn't change it for anything in this world. I love the man I see in the morning and the husband that kisses my lips in the evening. I love a man that never gave up on me, himself or our marriage. To often people walk away when the relationship gets hard but he never walked away from me.
We fought like hell to get to "happy" but then one day realized the missing piece was God. This last year I have seen our marriage grow the most I ever have. God is rebuilding, molding and redirecting us. We are finally getting it right after 11 years :) I cant wait to see what else God does in our life.
Happy anniversary my love. Thank you for 11 BEAUTIFULLY chaotic years. The best gift you ever gave me was the chance to see you be a dad. Oh my heart loved watching you this last year. It has been one heck of ride so far. I couldn't think of anyone else to enjoy this journey with than you. This next year will be one for the books. JOY IS COMING! ME NUM NEW!
